Dow Chemical Company's chlor-alkali business executives pointed out at the 9th Asia Chlor-alkali Industry Symposium held in Singapore that the global chlor-alkali industry will reach the peak of the current cycle this year and next year. The global chlor-alkali industry experienced a period of deceleration from 2001 to 2003. With the recovery of the global economy and the strengthening of market demand, a strong recovery began last year. The person in charge pointed out that the profits of electrochemical devices have not reached the level of reinvestment in the past few years, so the increase in global chlor-alkali production capacity is limited. Among them, North American chlor-alkali capacity has been reduced by 12% to 15% in the past four years. In the next few years, global chlor-alkali capacity growth will still lag behind the increase in demand, which will keep the global chlor-alkali plant operating at a higher rate. The new production capacity will be mainly in Asia and the Middle East. The United States is due to the substantial increase in the cost of natural gas and the growth in the demand for chlorine is relatively limited. Chlor-alkali producers have already shifted their production capacity overseas.
