Micrel launches new laser driver

Micrel, the industry leader in analog high-bandwidth communication devices and Ethernet IC solutions, today announced a new 2.7Gbps high-current, low-power laser driver designed for FP/DFB lasers. The SY88982 provides a minimum current compliance voltage of 2.4V for high currents. It provides DC-coupled applications for the metropolitan area network (MAN), local area network (LAN), storage area network (SAN) communications and data communications markets.

The SY88982 is a 3.3V, 2.7Gbps chip that provides a minimum voltage of 2.4V and a modulation current of up to 90mA. It is ideal for LAN and MAN applications with multiple transfer rates, such as FC, GbE, SONET OC-3/12/24/24 and SDH/STM1/4/8/16, due to the small supply current required. Very few components required for this IC
