The US Naval Research Service awarded 12 companies the "Electromagnetic Maneuver Command and Control" (EMC2) prototype development contract, using an advanced multi-functional RF architecture to integrate electronic warfare, radar, communications and information warfare functions. According to the contract, 12 companies including Loma Company, Nog Company, Raytheon Integrated Defense System Division, Redos Company and Rockwell Collins will participate in the bidding. The total amount of 12 contracts is 800 million US dollars.
Â
EMC2 aims to strengthen ONR's next-generation integrated multi-function shipborne RF system, overcoming the deficiencies of existing discrete systems, including electromagnetic interference/compatibility and other issues affecting system performance, as well as increasing costs; antennas caused by deck congestion Optimization problem; signal and radar cross-sectional area problems caused by multi-part vertical RF antenna installation. In addition, new communications and radar equipment pose new challenges to the space, weight and power of superstructures and masts.
Â
To this end, ONR has conducted a number of research in new electronic components, RF apertures, broadband sensors and communication capabilities, and multi-function RF design, including the "Advanced Multi-Function Radio Frequency Concept" (AMRFC) and "Multi-Functional Electronic Warfare" ( MFEW). The ONR "Intop" project is designed to address the challenges of the superstructure's RF capabilities. Prototypes of AMRFC and MFEW have been installed and tested at the NRL Chesapeake Bay Center; the InTop system is currently in the procurement and development phase.
Â
The EMC2 project will determine the research, design, manufacturing, integration, testing and evaluation tasks required for prototype development and demonstration verification, including prototype components and subsystems, integrating RF functions such as electronic warfare, radar, communications, and information warfare into one. A versatile multi-function antenna, electronic equipment and its software/firmware, and modular, cross-platform expansion capabilities. These prototypes will have multi-beam capability and can be integrated with previously developed RF systems such as InTop, including combat and C4ISR systems. The EMC2 prototype will also enhance resource management capabilities and flexibly change the strategic and tactical environment based on platform capabilities.
